Did you know that the addition of nutrients to an ecosystem can be   quite deadly?

An excess of  nutrients  in fertlizer rerun off from farms can cause  a  signifcant growth of algae  causing an algal bloom.Eventually these algae will die and decomposing bacteria, will, in turn   break down the algae .Unfortunately,  the decomposing bacteria requires  a lot of oxygen to do this.Since they are depleting the levels of oxygen , fish  and other aquatic `creatures  begin to die .Not only can severe ecological damage occur, but also   the decline in fisheries can cause   a negative effect on the economy.

See you next month for more Science.
