Did you  know that nitrites  in drinking water can permenantly damage or even kill infants? Read  our full overview further below.

High levels of nitrates in drinking water pose  a threat especially for young human infants  because humans and other animals usually have a  bacteria that converts nitrates into nitrites  within the large intestines. While adults are protected from  the harmful effects of these bacteria[since the  digestive system of human adults is highly acidic], the stomach of an infant being  very low in acidity , lets the bacteria move up in the stomach where nitrates are subsequently converted into nitrites. This is a serious issue as nitrites pose a serious threats to  creatures which contain hemogobin[ such as humans] in their blood as nitrites can  attach themselves to the  hemogobin  in  the blood of infants .As a result of this attachment, the infant’s body is unable to receive a proper  supply of oxygen to its  tissues.Significant permenant damage can result.
